A Small Collection of Towns Not To Be Missed

Panmure

Population 2016 Census Stats 424.

What can I say about this town. Well, when you are on a planned trip and you only allowed one night for a stop, but end up staying a week... that says it all. This is such a friendly town with so much on offer around the area. Yes, it only has a pub, general store and art gallery, but there's also a great free camping area with good facilities and so handy to many other destinations nearby. To the east, the Great Ocean Road with stops like Childers Cove, Bay of Islands, Peterborough, Port Cambell and the 12 Apostles. To the west, Warrnambool and it's many attractions. Shopping, Logans Beach Whale Watching (in season), Flagstaff Hill, and my favourite, Tower Hill.

Mallacoota

Population 2016 Census Stats 1,063.

The whole world knows about this wonderful and resilient town now after the 2019-2020 bushfires which decimated a good part of it.

Wycheproof

Population 2016 Census Stats 635.

Located in the Mallee region of Victoria, this lovely little town is home to the worlds smallest mountain.

Owned and operated by two wonderful people, Annie and Graeme. Great pub meals, High Tea, warm cosy fireplaces, walls of interesting memorabilia and photos

Call in and have a chat with Paul at the Crows Foot Pottery. Not only is he a darn good potter, but also a fountain of knowledge on some of the local history, starting with the building the pottery is in.

Not everyone can afford the luxury of pulling into a caravan park or stopping in a motel. For people like me, living on a pension, or whatever your reason, need to balance the books and free camping certainly helps out here. What I save on accommodation fees allows me to spend more in the local economy. Be that a few beers and a meal at the pub, entrance into a tourist spot or other things. The facilities in some free camps maybe limited, but the benefits outweigh the negatives.

Here in Panmure, the facilities are very good and the only thing missing is a shower, but word on the vine has it, that this may be forthcoming.
